This is not a pleasant topic to think about; but looking at our world, I can see our country and even in our valley here in Northeastern Wisconsin have their own little "Happy Valley" mentality. Everyone just goes their own private way, letting each individual have his own belief, usually just with the attitude of "Their truth isn't necessarily my truth" or the "They can believe whatever they wish as long as they aren't bothering me" type of attitude.
Come Sunday many go to the local church, go out to eat, have a few beers, watch a game on TV and get ready for the work week. Others use Sundays to sleep off the Friday and Saturday party hang-overs. Still there are those that just use Sunday to catch up with their house work for the week.
Most people, today, just don't want to be bothered with anything like the Bible, religion or salvation. If this sounds like your lifestyle, there may be some concerns that you should think about seriously.
The Bible tells us in John 12:35, 46 to 49 this: "Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going...... I have come a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
""Do you understand what Jesus is saying? He's telling us that the Bible has the answers for enlightening people that have questions concerning our salvation.
It isn't a matter of just being my interpretation for we see the same usage as quoted above in other areas such as the first five verses of John's gospel. It tells us, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it"
The Bible often gets shot down as being just an old book of myths and fairy tales, and many say that we cannot understand it, but do they look at the Bible or do they even own one? Just owning a Bible and using it like a good luck charm isn’t very enlightening either.
The Bible tells us that this would happen in that, "The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Cor. 2:14) 2 Timothy 3:1, 4, 5 adds, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.... lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God having a form of godliness but denying its power." 2 Timothy 4:3,4 adds, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."
Maybe this article will get you to examine your beliefs, especially if you are in some deep religion where you THINK that you are saved but walking in the dark. What I'm referring to are those that belong to churches that have been taught they are the one true church such as Catholics.
What I am referring to are sincere people in a religion such as Mormonism or Jehovah's Witnesses. What I'm talking about are those that practice Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic religions. These are just a few ways mentioned in Matthew 7:14 as having taken the wrong path.
I also include many people that just think their salvation depends upon God being a loving God regardless of their lifestyle, many of which illustrate a disregard for God's will for us. The facts are that none of us will have an excuse when they come before the judgment seat in Heaven. This also includes those that fail to take seriously the warnings and do not think it is very important to seek first the Kingdom of God. Of course I am also talking about you the reader, if you don't know or don't care because you don't believe in a God or a life after death.
Or is your problem one of just having a bad attitude towards the Bible? It all comes back to the lack of knowledge and the disregarding of Scriptures. just as Jesus told us in Matthew 22:29. The Bible can make the difference as 1 Timothy 3:16, 17 tells us that it is "given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
How much effort does it take to look at it and to check for yourself about what it says? Do you like to walk in the dark? If not then as Scripture tells us, "Today is the day of your salvation." Stop walking in the dark and do something about it today. Make the Bible a priority to learn and you will find that, “Your (God’s) word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:35)
Most of all you’ll know the truth and the truth will enlighten your ways and set you free.
